I’m Matt Caputo, a writer and reporter from Queens, New York.
My journalism career began in 2003, and since then, my byline has appeared in The New York Times, New York Post, New York Daily News, Newsday, Connecticut Magazine, Bleacher Report, The Hockey News, and Men’s Journal. I’m a former editor for SLAM magazine and The Rockaway Wave, a 130-year-old Rockaway Beach, New York newspaper.
I began teaching as an Adjunct Professor in the creative and professional writing department at Western Connecticut State University in January 2023. In August 2025, I became an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of English at Queensborough Community College, part of the City University of New York.
I am passionate about capturing the most provocative stories you might hear in a bar or around a bonfire. I chose journalism because I once read, on the contributor’s page of a back issue of Field & Stream magazine permanently collected in my Aunt and Uncle’s bathroom, that it was a profession you could always get better at. That has certainly been my experience.
